Green River Fishing Report

From the Bureau of Reclamation:

“As of December 03, 2025, the Flaming Gorge Reservoir pool elevation is 6022.49 feet, which amounts to 82 percent of live storage capacity. Inflows for the month of November totaled approximately 41,916 acre-feet (af) or 85 percent of average.

Flaming Gorge Dam operations are in a moderately dry hydrologic classification for the month of December and are projected to remain in the moderately dry hydrologic classification through the remainder of the base flow period. The current average daily release is 800 cfs but may vary to meet the 1,100-1,500 cfs target in Reach 2, measured at the Jensen USGS Gage. This data is considered the most likely scenario given the current forecast, is general, and is subject to changing conditions.

The December unregulated inflow forecast into Flaming Gorge for the next three months projects below average conditions. December, January, and February forecasted unregulated inflow volumes are 28,000 af (85 percent of average), 30,000 af (74 percent of average), and 34,000 af (75 percent of average), respectively.

What this means:

Currently, Flaming Gorge Reservoir is operating a daily average release of 854 CFS. Water temperatures are currently hovering around 43 degrees Fahrenheit.

Brown trout are currently spawning throughout the Green River system. Please be mindful of spawning fish to protect the future of our fishery.

With the below freezing night time temperatures, most of the terrestrial activity has subsided for the year. There is a fair amount of midge and blue wing olive activity during the middle of the day. Look for rising fish in slower pools and seams. You can target these rising fish with cluster midges of blue wing cripple patterns.

The streamer fishing has been good and will only get better once the spawn comes to a conclusion. I’ve had my best luck with streamers on the B and C sections of the river. White, gold, ginger, and black have all been productive. Lighter colors during the main portions of the day and black in the early morning and afternoon light.

Red Creek is currently running low and clear.

Current snowpack in the Upper Green River Drainage is at 90 percent of normal. Snowpack in the Lower Green River Drainage is sitting at 80 percent of normal. Current water year to date precipitation in the Upper Green River Drainage is 116 percent of normal. Current water year to date precipitation in the Lower Green River Drainage is 107 percent of normal.

Southwest Wyoming Fishing Report

From the Bureau of Reclamation:

“As of December 03, 2025, the Fontenelle Reservoir pool elevation is 6486.95 feet, which amounts to 59 percent of live storage capacity. Inflows for the month of November totaled approximately 37,097 acre-feet (af) or 89 percent of average.

Current releases are 800 cfs. This release is expected to remain constant throughout the winter base flow period, pending significant hydrologic changes or emergencies. The winter base flow is typically from mid-November to mid-March, pending icing conditions on the Green River downstream of the dam this coming spring.

The December final forecast for unregulated inflows into Fontenelle for the next three months projects below average conditions. December, January, and February Most Probable inflow volumes amount to 28,000 af (88 percent of average), 23,000 af (76 percent of average), and 21,000 af (74 percent of average), respectively.

What this means:

Water releases from Fontenelle Reservoir are currently around 850 CFS.

Brown trout are currently spawning on the entire Green River system. Please be mindful of spawning fish to ensure the future of the fishery.

There are currently less weeds than normal for this time of the year on the Wyoming Green due to a spike in river flows to 5,600 CFS in early November. Fish are beginning to move into their winter holding lies. Look for trout in deeper, slower runs. The streamer fishing has been more productive than usual this Fall due to the lack of moss in the water. I have found ginger, white, gold, and black to be the best colors lately.

Current snowpack in the Upper Green River Drainage is sitting at 90 percent. Snowpack in the Lower Green River Drainage is sitting at 80 percent of normal. Current water year to date precipitation in the Upper Green River Drainage is 116 percent of normal. Current water year to date precipitation in the Lower Green River Drainage is 107 percent of normal.

Provo River Fishing Report

Dam releases below Jordanelle Reservoir are at 153.39 CFS. Flows in Charleston are at 132.85 CFS. Flows below Deer Creek Reservoir are at 140.5 CFS. Current water temperatures are around 43.53 degrees Fahrenheit.

Brown trout are currently spawning throughout the Provo River system. Please be mindful of spawning fish.

The fish are beginning to move into their winter holding runs. Look for trout to be feeding in the slower, deeper runs for the foreseeable future. There is some midge and blue winged olive activity occurring midday and there are some rising fish that are targeting those midges and blue wings on the surface. Fish small midges, blue winged olives, sow bugs, and some other attractor patterns. Don’t be afraid to cover water and fish a streamer through the deeper runs and near cutbanks. You might be rewarded with some larger fish.

Current snowpack in the Provo River Drainage is sitting at 54 percent of normal. Current water year to date precipitation is sitting at 94 percent of normal.

Weber River Fishing Report

Releases out of Rockport Reservoir are currently at 26.6 CFS.

The river near Coalville is currently flowing at 37.7 CFS..

Releases out of Echo Reservoir are currently at 1.36 CFS.

River flows by Mountain Green are at approximately 40.5 CFS.

The low flows along the entire Weber River are not ideal for fishing. I would recommend angling elsewhere.

Current snowpack in the Weber River Drainage is sitting at 56 percent of normal. Some good news is that due to the October rains, the current water year to date precipitation is the Weber River Drainage is at 96 percent of normal.
